Tua Tagovailoa’s Hidden Marriage and Social Media Backlash

Tua Tagovailoa, widely known as the Miami Dolphins quarterback, rose to fame for his impressive college football career at the University of Alabama before being drafted into the NFL. Renowned for his on-field skill and determination, Tua quickly became a key figure for the Dolphins.

However, it was not just his football talent that brought him into the limelight. In September, Tua suffered a concussion during a game against the Buffalo Bills after a collision with Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

As he lay on the field, his teammates urgently called for trainers. Fortunately, Tua eventually walked off the field on his own, conscious and alert, Amazon’s Kaylee Hartung confirmed.

The news broke when sports journalist Andy Slater revealed on Twitter, now known as X, in August 2022: “SLATER SCOOP: Tua Tagovailoa has picked up another ring. Congratulations to the Miami Dolphins’ QB, who got married two weeks ago, a clergy source tells me.”

Fans quickly took to social media, expressing mixed feelings about Tua’s decision to keep his marriage private. Many criticized the quarterback for hiding such a significant personal milestone.

A seventh person typed“Uh, news flash…marriage is private in certain states for non-famous folks…when you’re famous, it gets made public. That’s a trade-off for fame…can’t go in a bar with a random and nobody notices.”

Responding to the backlash, Tua defended his actions, emphasizing his desire for privacy. He stated, “For me, I love to keep my life as private as possible, and that’s what we tried to do.”

He expressed frustration over the invasion of his personal space, labeling it as “disrespectful” and admitting he had no idea how the news had been leaked.

Meet Tua Tagovailoa’s Wife

Tua’s wife, Annah Tagovailoa, has remained mostly out of the spotlight. According to her Instagram, Annah took Tua’s last name. They went public with their relationship in July 2023, sharing a sweet photo where Annah rested her head on Tua’s shoulder, both smiling warmly.

Though Tua later deleted the post, Annah kept it on her page, showcasing a rare glimpse into their private world. When asked how marriage changed his perspective, the NFL player humorously remarked that it meant no more girls for him.

Annah appears deeply religious, frequently sharing Bible verses and scriptures on her social media, reflecting her strong faith.

In September 2019, she took to Instagram to share a beautiful snap of her family, captioning the post, “‘So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.’ – 1 Corinthians 13:13.”

This devotion to faith aligns closely with Tua’s upbringing, as the Tagovailoa family bond was deeply rooted in faith and family values. Tua’s parents, Galu and Diane Tagovailoa, raised him and his siblings — Taulia, Taylor Ann, and Taysia — in a spiritual tradition grounded in their American Samoan heritage.

Galu stated, “Family and faith are everything. It’s part of our Samoa culture. We’re strongly taught back home that family is so important and how we stick together is everything.” Tau added, “My poise comes from my faith. I just pray, asking God to let His will be done in me, and the rest will follow.”
